"It blows my mind to see what our Green Friday campaign has grown into. This year it’ll be 373,159 trees planted and 73,457,000 sqm (18,364 acres) of rainforest protected, that’s a sh*t load of trees… When I started Passenger 12 years ago, I never imagined we’d be able to make this kind of impact year after year."

Thanks to your support over Green Friday ‘24, we’re committed to planting 373,159 trees and protecting 73,457,000 sqm of rainforest. This year, we’re supporting wildfire restoration in the Pacific Northwest across the states of Oregon and Washington, as well as California. We’re also working closely with long-term charity partners Trees for the Future and Rainforest Trust, and our new partner, Earthly, for mangrove restoration in Madagascar.
Here’s a breakdown of our Green Friday efforts this year:
146,914 forest garden trees: Planted with Trees for the Future in East Africa.
73,457,000 sqm of rainforest: Protected with Rainforest Trust in South America.
189,517 mangrove trees: Planted with Earthly in Madagascar.
36,729 native trees: Planted with One Tree Planted to support PNW wildfire restoration.
Trees for the Future
Thanks to your support, our Green Friday donations are making a real difference for farmers like Peter . We first met him last June in Eastern Uganda with Trees for the Future (TREES), and seeing the impact of sustainable farming firsthand was something we’ll never forget. Now in his third year of the four-year TREES training program, Peter has transformed his land, growing sweet potatoes, yams, and over 40 banana trees that provide a steady income at local markets.

One of the biggest takeaways from our visit was understanding the power of the living fence (or green wall). It’s more than just a boundary, it creates space for permagarden crops like sukuma wiki, cowpeas, and garden peas, keeps livestock from wandering onto neighbouring farms, and even provides fodder and firewood. This simple innovation has helped triple his family’s daily meals, proving just how life-changing sustainable farming and agroforestry can be.
Rainforest Trust

Passenger is funding the protection of 25,550 acres of Brazilian rainforest. In partnership with Rainforest Trust and Fundação Pró-Natureza, this contributes to a collective 1.19 million acres of native land being safeguarded across the Cerrado and Caatinga regions - vital ecosystems that play a key role in shaping our planet.
The Cerrado alone is home to 5% of the world’s plants and animals. And your orders will help:
121,200-acre expansion of Veredas do Peruaçu State Park to protect rare wetlands & wildlife
366,200-acre expansion of Serra da Capivara National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
780,000-acre creation of the Jerumenha protected area, securing vital water sources & forests
This project will help protect rare species, preserve water sources, and combat illegal deforestation, ensuring a more sustainable future for these ecosystems.
Earthly
Mangroves can store 2-3 times more carbon than traditional forests, so protecting and restoring them is hugely important in Madagascar. Our Green Friday donations will fund the planting of mangroves at the Maroalika site, which helps restore degraded coastal ecosystems, soak up carbon, prevent flood damage, and support local communities with better fisheries and jobs. This project is part of a wider scheme that has planted over 300 million trees and created over 3 million workdays since 2007.

One Tree Planted
Over 1,500 acres of forest land within Whitewater Ranch in Lane County, Oregon, were severely impacted by the 2020 Holiday Farm Fire. Our donation has completed the tree planting in this project, supporting the restoration of this rich and diverse ecosystem that protects and benefits the health of many streams that flow into the MacKenzie River.
Supporting the Bolt Creek restoration in King County, Washington, will restore tribal land that was burned during the 2022 Bolt Creek Fire. For thousands of years, Tulalip’s ancestors lived in these forested mountainous areas, and the trees are needed to return it to productivity, restore habitat, improve soil stabilisation, and increase carbon sequestration. Our donation has meant One Tree Planted can complete tree planting in this area.
The 2013 Rim Fire in Tuolumne County, California, burned 257,314 acres over the course of three months, with more than 90,000 acres being burned at a high severity. Our support of this project will restore mixed conifer forests, creating wildlife habitats and protecting water quality within the Tuolumne Watershed, which supplies the Central Valley and Bay Area. One Tree Planted has confirmed that site preparation is complete, and planting is estimated to begin in April of this year.
And we’ll keep on planting today, tomorrow and the next day just as we always have. “For every order, we plant a tree” - It’s a year-round promise, one we’re proud to stick by.
