Trail Talks: Community, Connections & Chasing the Stoke

“We’re all so over-stimulated and then you come out here… and all of that just stops.”

~ MORGAN CHINN

Episode 2 of our Trail Talks series takes us to the foothills and winding trails of the PNW. Forest Park, Portland, if we had to pin it. This inspiring walk-and-talk is led by two badass women, carving their own paths in backcountry skiing and boardsports. Female empowerment through action, accelerated in keeping with this year’s International Women’s Day theme. Supporting young girls in getting started and flipping the bird to those still stuck in the boys’ club mentality.

Morgan Chinn and Alyssa Lysset share their experiences on a slow amble. Up top, Morgan opts for the bucket hat and Alyssa for the beanie—we appreciate the mandarin colour-match. Themes of community, escapism, and connections flow easy.

“Going on hikes and being out in nature… it’s almost like my version of journaling.”

~ ALYSSA LYSSET

What struck us the most is how their experiences feel so intertwined, built on a self-belief to go out and get stoked on adventure. The conversation touches on the need for more female representation in outdoor pursuits, backing yourself, and not being afraid to fall (whether on snow or concrete). Chasing the flow, reconnecting with nature and checking in on each other - we hear ya.

Alyssa: “You’re not necessarily trying to escape… you know, you’re trying to reconnect”.

Morgan: “Disconnect to reconnect.”

Alyssa: “Exactly…”

Seconded.

“It’s simple, there’s nothing crazy to it… it’s just enjoying those little moments” - Alyssa.

Follow Morgan’s antics in the mountains as she breaks down the barriers to backcountry skiing at @mkchinnart. It’s @alyssalysset if you’re “just here for the vibes” - Alyssa’s words, not ours… we can get onboard with that.

Thanks to everyone who made Episode 2 happen. We had quite the on-set crew led by Morgan’s two trail hounds, Vesper and Calvin. Nate took up position behind the camera, Jordan was on-hand as support and dog wrangler, and Nell took along her point-and-shoot. Here’s a little snippet of how the day played out.

Enjoy.

There’s so much in making a big ol’ stride for the door, turning the key and getting a little lost on purpose. Heading out, embracing the trail, and taking the long route home. You’re sure in for some stunner sunsets, good vibes, and future stories to tell. Why not share them with us?
